

JC CoolScience Carnival 2026 Engages Over 13,000 Participants in an Inquiry-based Science Journey

JC CoolScience Carnival 2026 (the “Carnival”) was successfully held at the Hong Kong Science Museum from 20 to 21 June 2026, attracting over 13,000 students, parents, teachers and members of the public. Under the theme “Future City Lab”, the Carnival featured a diverse range of interactive experiences developed in collaboration with the Royal Institution of Great Britain, encouraging participants to observe, question, test and explore how science can help shape future cities through inquiry-based learning.
A highlight of the Carnival was the two Theatre Science Shows. “We’ve Got the Power” invited participants to explore energy transformation and renewable energy, while “Motion Under Pressure” demonstrated how scientific principles can be applied to improve vehicle stability and performance in different environments. Visitors also enjoyed a variety of hands-on science booths, where they explored the science behind natural phenomena such as wind, clouds and seismic forces through experimentation and discovery.
Mr Dan Plane, Head of Science Demonstration at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, returned to Hong Kong for the event and said: "It is truly inspiring to see Hong Kong’s children and parents so engaged in scientific exploration. When children test, build models and observe energy changes, they are not just learning science – they are doing science. That is the core of inquiry-based learning." He added that the Carnival has successfully integrated inquiry-based learning into everyday life, injecting new vitality into Hong Kong's science education.
