Science Expert Sharing Series (3): Professor Deng Wenhong

In March 2026, JC CoolScience organised a science expert talk featuring Professor Deng Wenhong, Antarctic bird conservation specialist and Head of the Department of Ecology at Beijing Normal University. The event engaged more than 200 students and teachers, offering first-hand insights into polar scientific research.
Delivered in a hybrid format, the talk combined engaging stories and striking visual materials to showcase the experiences of mainland Chinese research teams during their polar expeditions aboard Xuelong, China's polar research icebreaker. Using the impact of global warming on emperor penguin habitats as an example, Professor Deng demonstrated how scientific research helps us better understand and address environmental challenges.
The talk broadened students’ understanding of scientific research and environmental issues, while strengthening their appreciation of the connections between science and everyday life. By bringing authentic scientific experiences into the classroom, the session sparked students’ curiosity and encouraged scientific thinking.
