Teachers play a key facilitating role in sparking students’ interest whilst guiding them through the process of scientific inquiry. Yet, many primary teachers do not yet have science background, nor feel ready to facilitate an engaging inquiry-based science learning experience. The project’s professional development, designed and delivered in partnership with leading Chinese Mainland and oversea education partners, aims to enhance quality of science teaching, strengthen sector capacity, and foster a vibrant science teacher community.
- Multi-layered teacher training and support are offered to enhance capacity in IBL pedagogies, complemented by hands-on tutorials and exposure opportunities (in Chinese Mainland and overseas), to improve teachers’ confidence and competence in supporting students’ science learning.
- To nurture change-makers for science education development, high-calibre science teachers undergo a series of intensive trainings on IBL pedagogy and study trips to strengthen their science knowledge and exposure through the Advanced Teacher Fellowship.
- A Community of Practice is established to foster collaborative learning, sector knowledge exchange and provide peer support and learning.
